Forklift Classifications
The following classes of forklift describe the application and fuel choice of every forklift. Certification is truly required for every class of forklift which the operator would be utilizing.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested during dry conditions for outdoor use. The cushion tired models are made for indoor surfaces that are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles which make use of industrial batteries, which make them desirable inside closed environments where air quality is a problem. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units commonly used everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This forklift is recommended for environments where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are effective at making the most of storage space. Their unique design makes them perfect where speed is needed and for small spaces.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These are hand-controlled and battery-powered models. Utilizing a steering tiller, the operator can operate the lift while standing in front of the truck. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved laterally in order to maneuver the vehicle. The smaller capacity units use industrial batteries.
