The forklift is an essential piece of equipment in most businesses which operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling plants. This great equipment, the forklift is constructed of various parts, like the important carriage, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Lift trucks normally have a range of attachments too. The following are several of the most essential forklift parts.
Engine of the Forklift - the forklift truck is designed with a power source at the rear of the machinery. Various types of forklift truck have different types of engine which need varying power sources. Like for instance, a lift truck with an IC engine could have any of the following as its power source: CNG gas, LP gas, diesel or gasoline. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Truck Frame - The truck frame is the base of the lift truck and the most vital of all the lift truck components. This forms the core of the machinery. All other lift truck components are connected to the base, like the counterweight, overhead guard, axles, mast and wheels. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks may be part of the frame assembly as well.
Counterweight Forklift Components - While lifting heavy cargo, the counterweight allows the machine to be balanced. This specific part is cast iron and comes connected to the rear of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric forklift offers balance and may work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - this part is where the operator sits and drives the machine. Several forklifts have a cab area which is open to the air and some have closed cabs. There are numerous components situated in the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such important parts like the switches, levers, steering wheel, operator controls, seats and pedals. The dashboard has operator readouts.
